For Youth

The Youth Programs of the Workforce Development Board include education and training opportunities for Youth ages 16-24.

  • Youth On-The-Job Training – Prepares youth for a variety of careers by working with local employers to provide training and the critical skills necessary to succeed in today’s job market.  Employers can apply for reimbursement of training costs for approved OJT contracts.
  • Youth Education and Training – Provides financial assistance to youth who would like to continue their education in an approved field.  Assistance is available for both degree and certificate programs for youth who meet eligibility criteria.

The NC Works Career Center also offers a variety of services to youth, including access to GED classes and testing, basic skills assessments and career interest surveys.  All workshops, such as resume writing and interviewing, are also available to youth.

Determination Through Life Challenges

Anisha Sharp has overcome many obstacles in her life, including being homeless for most of her childhood. Despite her challenges, Sharp has pursued her goals with determination. As a participant in the Team Work program, Sharp determined a career pathway and gained valuable skills through the paid Work Experience component as she worked to complete requirements for high school graduation. Even during her participation in the Youth program, Sharp faced serious obstacles to overcome due to her decision to drop out of high school.  READ MORE >
