The WorkKeys® System

WorkKeys is an EEO/ADA Compliant system for helping Businesses hire candidates who have the foundational skills that are necessary to learn the job quickly.

WorkKeys helps:

  • Reduce the time and money related to training new hires
  • Reduces turnover by ensuring that new hires have the foundational skills needed to learn the job quickly
  • Identifies specific skill gaps that new hires or existing employees can overcome to  improve their effectiveness on the job
  • Improves employee morale by helping workers imporve the specific skills they need to perform the job effectively, thereby reducing frustraitons for both the employee and their coworkers who are "picking up the slack"

Components of the WorkKeys® System

  • Job Profiles - In-depth Job Analysis conducted by a certified WorkKeys Job Profiler
  • WorkKeys Assessments in nine specific skill areas that are correlated with the skill areas and skill levels identified in the Job Profile
  • Skill Building Tutorial System (WIN) available on-line - closely correlated to the WorkKeys Assessments
  • Career Readiness Certificates - State and Nationally recognized certificates that confirm the individual's demonstrated skill levels in Applied Math, Reading for Information & Locating Information (the most commonly identifed required skill areas among thousands of profiled jobs).

WorkKeys® Job Profiles

WorkKeys Job Profiles involve several hours of skiled observations and interviews with the "subject matter experts" (experienced employees) that focus on carefully establishing and documenting the exact levels of skill required to perform the job at "entry level" and "performance level".  The skill areas and levels analyzed during the job profile match the skill areas and levels that are measured by the WorklKeys Assessments.

Job Profiles usually involve a fee for service.  The amount of the fee is determined by the degree of complexity that the job being involves.  Free estimates will be provide prior to the performance of the Job Profile.

WorkKeys® Assessments

WorkKeys Assessments are conducted in nine different skill areas (range of levels):

Reading for Information (3-7)  Applied Math (3-7)  Locating Information (3-6)
 Observation (3-6)  Listening (1-5)  Teamwork (3-6)
Applied Technology (3-6)  Writing (1-5)  Business Writing (1-5)

Skill Building Tutorials - (WIN)

WIN is a system of free, WorkKeys related, online tutorials that can be accessed anytime through an internet connection (high speed connectivity is recommended).  WIN lessons teach WorkKeys skills and concepts in the same areas and at the same levels that WorkKeys Assessments measure performance.  Using WIN is an excellent way to efficiently build skills in specific areas and to reduce test anxiety when preparing for WorkKeys assessments.  The WIN System also has lessons on effective work habits, problem solving skills, interpersonal skiils, time and resource management, etc.

To obtain a WIN login and password, call or visit the Mountain Area JobLink Career Center (250-4760) or the Henderson County Joblink (694-1755) and ask for the WIN Tutorial Specialist.  A brief on-site WIN familiarizaton session is recommended, but you can receive instruction for using WIN by email or fax.
